Welcome!

Welcome to Mid-Pack Swim Bike Run! I will be blogging about my fitness journey, which includes swimming, biking and running. My true passion is running. I have run 1 marathon, 7 half marathons, 1 - 200 mile relay race, and a number of 5k and 10k races. During my marathon, I chatted with a guy who had recently completed a half ironman. He and I chatted for a bit, and I told him that I dreamed of doing a half ironman someday. He told me to just sign up for a race and do it. So, that night, after slogging through 26.2 miles, I began looking up triathlon races. I wasn't confident enough to sign up for a half ironman, so I settled for a sprint triathlon in June of 2013 - The McKinney Salty Dog. I finished that race with less than ten hours spent in the pool for training - and I was on a mountain bike. It wasn't pretty, but I finished! And quickly signed up for another race :) My second race was completed after a friend gave me technique swim lessons and I purchased a rode bike. I improved my time by 43 minutes. Not bad! I am now hooked on triathlons and contemplating a half ironman for 2014.

While I love the adventure of swimming, biking, and running, I have no ambitions of finishing first place in a race. Which is good, because I will likely never do that. I've come close to winning a coveted age group award (in a 5k race), but for the most part I am content as a mid-pack swim, bike, runner. I would rather go far than go fast - mainly because it seems whenever I go fast, I end up injured. I may not have a body that is naturally inclined towards running, but I do have a heart that can run for miles!
